Health Canada recommends that household water is put to the test at least once a year. Most realize that if they plan to stay healthy, they need to drink pure water, regardless of their age. You wouldn't take water off the floor to drink it, would you? So then why would you drink water after it has run through pastures, human and animal waste, herbicides, pesticides, industrial pollution, and then drink it? Less than 1% of water is used for human consumption. Adding chlorine, or chloramine to water isn't protecting us from many other problems in our water supply. Besides, chlorine is meant to kill harmful living organisms. Unfortunately it kills ALL living organisms. As one medical professional put it,

Water by it's nature is not pure. Because it is a solvent, it picks up little bits of everything it touches. To drink unpurified water, is to gamble with your health. The quality of our water is effected by variables which are all subject to change, therefore monitoring household drinking water is very important. We test the Ph levels, hardness, iron, iron bacteria, nitrates, chlorine levels, chlorine absorption, and conduct chemical tests. The tests are accurate to small percentages, far lower than the daily fluctuations within the water itself.

A test usually takes an hour, if the technician come to your residence, including the time required to get the equipment all packed up, it also depends on the number of questions you have regarding your water. We schedule free tests at times that are convenient for you, or you can mail us a sample of your water and we will test it in our lab. We prefer husband and wife are present during the analysis so each can have questions answered and see the results. The majority of tests are completed right at your kitchen sink. Certain components of the water analysis require a water sample to be left for 30 minutes.

These tests are a free service to residents of Alberta only, we try to book free tests based on our technicians' proximity to you in conjunction with previously scheduled bookings. An average adult body is 65 percent water, that's roughly 45 quarts. Men are more watery than women. A man's body is 60 to 65 percent water, compared to 50 to 60 percent for a woman. In infants, the figure is a whopping 70 percent according to statistics compiled by the International Bottled Water Association.

``That's mostly for cushioning,'' says Felicia Busch, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association and specialist on the nutritional effects of water. ``Because of the birth process, they need a lot of cushioning.''

Water content differs throughout the body. Blood is made up of 83 percent water, bones are 22 percent water, and muscle is 75 percent water. Water typically comprises 60 to 70% of the total weight of normal ligaments. Healthy skin contains about 70% water. The Brain is 78% water. Men have more water in their bodies because they generally have more muscle mass than women, says Busch. There is no water in fat, she says, and women generally have a higher percentage of body fat than men.
